The First thing we notice in a Montessori class is discipline. 30 – 35 children in the Montessori classroom, moving busily minding their own work without the teacher’s instruction.

I have been conferred Doctorate for the thesis Play in early childhood education, a comparative study between Montessori and non-Montessori educational approaches, under Dr Prof Choodamani Nandagopal, a distinguished Art Historian from Jain University.
My books, Nanna Kannada Pustaka Bhaaga 1 & 2, My First Book, Meri Pehli Kitab, are widely used in Montessori and Traditional schools. I have translated Maria Montessori articles and a book, 'What you should know about your child', to Kannada published by Sapna Book House.

Episode 5 – Developmental Stages
This episode is about the developmental stages of the human being. It discusses the difference in growth and development and the reasons for classifying developmental stages in the blocks of 6 years.
Episode 4 – Metamorphosis
This episode explores the idea of metamorphosis in children. Ordinarily, metamorphosis is associated with Insects and frogs, which go through striking transformations in their life cycle. Contrary to the popular belief that development is constantly upward, the child’s development has ups and downs, births and rebirths, and metamorphosis in mental and physical aspects! This is exactly how the child develops.

All living and non-living things in this world are influenced by some power. Human beings are not exempt from this. The child also develops according to the rules laid by that power which Maria Montessori calls Natural Laws of Development. Understanding these laws helps us to support the child better. ಇಂತಹ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪೋಷಕರು ತಮ್ಮ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ನೀಡಬೇಕಾದ ಪೂರ್ವ ಪ್ರಾಥಮಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣವನ್ನು ತಪ್ಪಿಸಿ, ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಒಂದನೇ ತರಗತಿಗೆ ಸೇರಿಸಿಬಿಡೋಣ ಎಂದು ನಿರ್ದರಿಸುವುದು ಸಹಜ. ಆರ್ಥಿಕವಾಗಿ ಇದೊಂದು ಒಳ್ಳೆಯ ನಿರ್ಧಾರವಾದರೂ ಮಗುವಿನ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ ಅಷ್ಟು ಸಕಾರಾತ್ಮಕವಾದುದಲ್ಲ. ಮಗುವನ್ನು ಆರ್ಥಿಕ ಸಂಕಷ್ಟದಿಂದ ಶಾಲೆಗೆ ಕಳಿಸಲಾಗದಿದ್ದರೂ ಮನೆಯ ವಾತಾವರಣವನ್ನು ಉತ್ತೇಜನಕಾರಿಯನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಬಹಳ ಅವಶ್ಯಕ. ಪ್ರೋತ್ಸಾಸದಾಯಕ, ಕ್ರಿಯಾಶೀಲ ಪರಿಸರ ಮಗುವಿನ ಬೆಳವಣಿಗೆಗೆ, ಕಲಿಕೆಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ಮುಖ್ಯ ಎಂಬುದಕ್ಕೆ ಐದು ಕಾರಣಗಳನ್ನು ಕೊಡಬಹುದು.

The child at birth appears almost nothing. He cannot walk, cannot talk, and he can’t even eat on his own. The same child, within two years, learns so much. He walks, runs, talks continuously; how did it happen within such a short time? For the same work, an adult takes years. How does it happen with the child?
